How I incorporated the Nokia 2660 Flip into my tech sphere

I reside in a tech bubble from which there is no escape, just like many of you. In this bubble, people surround themselves with several gadgets, pay for services they hardly ever use, and update social media on every significant event in their lives. And the new Nokia 2660 Flip may have been created to burst this bubble. However, using the Nokia 2660 Flip for me had less to do with giving up my iPhone for a "simple" phone and more to do with my love of vintage flip phones. That strategy obviously worked because I was able to incorporate this feature phone into my own personal digital world. Here are some reviews of this phone.

My inner hippie yearned for a "genuine" flip phone.

It's no secret that I adore flip phones. Before the iPhone was ever released in the 2000s, the Motorola Razr was all the rage. When I got to college, I did manage to get a Sony Ericsson flip phone because I was unable to afford the Razr. Flip phones began to decline in popularity as smartphones proliferated, and they finally became obsolete, with the exception of Japan, where they remain popular. The hipster in me preferred a traditional flip phone rather than a folding phone designed like a clamshell. I did attempt to look for it on Amazon, but I soon realized that flip phones are no longer manufactured. I then tried to purchase a Moto Razr from a seller on OLX, but battery problems forced me to abandon my plan. The Nokia 2660 Flip can be used in this situation.

It feels

When using the Nokia 2660 Flip, you get a sense of nostalgia. Simply put, I'm curious what an adolescent who was born in the late 2000s will think about using a Nokia flip phone in 2022. Even people who grew up with clamshell phones will find it uncomfortable to utilize a flip phone on a regular basis.

You need this vibrant red phone to start having fun. It's difficult to miss. On a plane, a passenger gently inquired, "Is it a flip phone?" Another continued to look but lacked the courage to turn her curiosity into a dialogue.

Here, there is no glass black, or fancy, strong aluminum chassis. The polycarbonate body doesn't have a cheap appearance or feel. The phone looks pudgy and has rounded corners, almost like a toy. You will be astounded by how light and compact the Nokia 2660 Flip is. It fit easily into the pocket of my jeans. I wish I could say the same thing about contemporary smartphones.

The flip mechanism seems reliable and trustworthy. When folding, there is a distinct click, which I loved. With a modern smartphone that doesn't fold in half, you won't get that sensation of satisfaction until you spend hundreds of dollars on a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The Nokia 2660 Flip is comfortable to use if you are accustomed to a vintage Nokia phone. The rear of the gadget can be removed to reveal a detachable 1500mAh battery, two SIM card slots, and a MicroSD slot. To connect to your wireless headphones, the phone supports Bluetooth and a headphone jack. On the far left of the phone, there is a micro-USB 2.0 port. Right beside it, on the side, is a beautiful, clicky power button. The right-hand volume rocker is still there.

Two Displays

It's time to start learning about the screens once you're comfortable opening and closing a Nokia 2600 Flip. An internal display and an external display are both present in this phone. The 1.7-inch external display you will receive is designed for displaying necessities like the clock, alerts, and notifications. I thought the secondary display was useful because it allowed me to monitor the clock and notifications without opening the phone.

Directly above the external display of the front panel is a 0.3-megapixel camera with a flash. I don't have anything to say about the camera, which is awful for 2022. Compared to modern smartphones, the main screen is small (2.8 inches), but it is adequate for reading texts, checking the calendar, and playing games that have already been installed. A zoomed-in user interface that makes it simple to understand what is on the screen is a feature that the elderly may find useful. Simply flip it closed to end calls when finished.

Regular Usage

I was aware of my motivations for utilizing the Nokia 2660 Flip before I even started using it. You won't be able to play games that even a simple smartphone can manage, and there is no touchscreen or support for apps like WhatsApp. The operating system is straightforward and resembles that of other feature phones from Nokia. The gadget already has a few games and apps preloaded, like Facebook and Snake. The specifications of this device are irrelevant to the experience you have with it, therefore I won't even mention them.

The first thing to realize is that it is not meant to replace a smartphone you already own or my iPhone. I've always desired a backup phone for unexpected situations. There have been times when my phone has been without service or power for hours at a time, like when I recently took a protracted train ride. When you are traveling, having a secondary phone with lengthy battery life is helpful. The Nokia 2660 Flip's battery lasts for days, which fulfills the reason I wanted to get a secondary phone in the first place. This is still the case despite the fact that using a T9 keyboard is annoying and WhatsApp is no longer available. But in case of an emergency, at least I can text or phone someone.

When I go for a morning stroll, I do bring the Nokia 2660 Flip with me, but not every day. It all depends on how I'm feeling; it can't be my main phone. I use the Nokia 2660 Flip when I want to take a break from the news cycle and WhatsApp notifications and disconnect from the outside world for a while. I recently left my iPhone at home and took my Kindle and Nokia 2660 Flip to a park in the morning. After a while, I enjoyed reading a book without becoming sidetracked.

Who ought to purchase a Nokia 2660 Flip?

Just consider it: why would someone who is so used to a smartphone in 2022 choose to convert to a Nokia 2660 Flip? Perhaps the buyer of this phone has a soft spot for vintage phones from the past and is eager to expand their collection with the Nokia 2660 Flip. I believe the Nokia 2660 Flip will appeal to many consumers who yearn for simpler times and wish to keep their devices in their pockets. Another target market for this kind of long-lasting, user-friendly phone may be seniors. A growing group of users is also making fashion statements out of old technology. It's true that there is an actual trend on TikTok called "vintage tech nostalgia." Budget feature phone users are the only users of this phone who won't purchase it. This won't even be on their radar because of the price.

The idea of spending Rs 4,699 on a feature phone may not appeal to everyone. The Nokia 2660 Flip was never meant to be my primary phone; it was always meant to be used in conjunction with the iPhone. I still find it difficult to break my smartphone addiction, and when you work in the journalism industry, it's not always possible to do so. Though I can't imagine a future without smartphones, I do believe there should be occasional digital detoxes. Perhaps the Nokia 2660 Flip contributes to a more positive connection with technology.
